Colchester School District voters will consider a bond proposal on the November 5, 2024 ballot to address the challenges of maintaining aging school buildings while keeping up with growing enrollment. We collaborate closely with our partners over at the Colchester Police Department and we have been tracking a concerning rise in the number of drivers failing to stop for our school buses with activated red lights. This is frustrating, but it is also incredibly dangerous. So, we got to work! Colchester School District has school counselors in all of our buildings and like many of our faculty and staff, they have a tremendous impact on helping students achieve school success. Whether is one-on-one support during a crisis, facilitating small groups on specific topics, providing classroom instruction, recommending scholarship opportunities, or helping plan for a career after graduation, our school counselors do it all.

Celebrating the First Half of the Year at PPS!
This video features the great learning our Kindergarten students are doing at the beginning of this school year students in Mr. Allbee's room were learning how to write letters of the alphabet, Ms. Moore and Mrs. Belaski's students were learning how to spot rhyming words, and Ms. Donnelly's student scientists were observing trees outside and diagramming what they saw.

PPS teachers and staff said good-bye to our PPS Pandas in style this year with a "Second Grade Send-Off" and a PPS Car Parade. We will miss all of you over the summer and look forward to being together with you again soon!

The Colchester Sun recently came to UMS and PPS to ask our students for some tips on how to cook a turkey. The answers were everything we hoped they'd be!
Each year, the Colchester High School Cares Club collects food donations to make Thanksgiving baskets for fellow students and their families who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal. If you have any extra non-perishables in your pantry, we encourage you to bring them into any Colchester school and drop them into the designated bin in the lobby before November 22nd. If you ever doubted how much one box of stuffing or rice could help a fellow Colchester student and their family, take a look at this quick video. Thanks for donating!

Students in all three K-5 schools in Colchester participated in activities to learn how to code during the December 2018 Hour of Code week, December 3 through 7. There are 256 coding languages and students learned the basics of at least two of them. Coding activities gave our students an authentic application for directional vocabulary, number sense and counting, collaboration, and creativity. Students also used coding applications as a way to demonstrate their reading comprehension and learning in several different content areas.

All three of Colchester's elementary schools were recognized at the annual Vermont PBIS Leadership Forum. Our data shows that implementing PBIS has had a positive impact on academic and behavioral outcomes for our students. Way to go Porters Point, Union Memorial, and Malletts Bay! Highlights of our Mighty Makers Celebration of Learning for 2018 - the culminating event of our two-week project-based learning units for each grade level.
Chick It Out! Our Grade 1 chicks hatched this week. Our hallways were filled with the sounds of cheeping and peeping as students studied the life cycle of chickens and compared baby chicks to adult birds.
UMS' mascot, "Champ," enjoyed his visit to PPS this past week. He went everywhere and learned what it means to have "Panda Pride." We can't wait to hear about all the things Pearson, the PPS mascot, learned about UMS during his visit, too! Thanks, UMS Champs, for sharing Champ with us!

Teachers from PPS, UMS, and MBS all participated in an inservice day learning about the Next Generation Science Standards engineering design cycle. They learned how to teach engineering design while also experiencing it first hand. Everyone was given an assignment to use scientific principles to develop a structure that would keep water cold on a hot playground. Check out this Magisto movie of the creative prototypes they came up with in this engineering design challenge.
Hundreds of Colchester students participated in National Walk to School Day. Not only did the kids receive great support and patience from commuters as they cautiously drove through our school zones but the police department and athletes from Colchester's own Saint Michael's College joined in to cheer them on!

Dozens of students have caught the running bug at Porters Point School!
After reading one of this year's Red Clover books, K-2 students at PPS used a research method to answer the question, "If you see a whale, how would you know it is a blue whale?" The information they gathered to answer the question was then used by a group of second graders to write and perform their original script!
Students all around the district want to thank our teachers and staff for the incredible work they do all year long. They made this video to share why they appreciate the staff here at CSD!
