Special Education Support Services are available to students at Malletts Bay School (MBS) who are identified as eligible under the Individuals With Disabilities Act. Students receive specialized instruction in settings ranging from full inclusion in their regular education environment to instruction outside the classroom. Students primarily receive specialized instruction in reading, writing, math and language. Some students also receive support in developing social/emotional, behavioral skills, and/or motor skills.
The instructional delivery model is based on a team approach and discussions about the needs of the student. We provide instruction based on a Multi-Tiered System of Support in the least restrictive environment, providing access to curriculum through universal design and specialized instruction. Special educators and SLPs also provide consultation and support to general education teachers, helping to ensure a full range of instruction and access for all learners. MBS currently employs six full time special educators and a full time speech/language pathologist (SLP). Instructional Assistants, Autism Interventionists, and Behavioral Interventionists are hired as support staff. The number of support staff varies from year to year based on the individual needs of students.
Information about the special education process can be found on the Colchester School District homepage. Go to Resources, Department, Student Support. If you suspect your child has learning differences or a learning disability, please contact your child’s teacher to express your concerns.
