All children learn and grow at their own rate. Sometimes children do not reach developmental milestones in a timely manner and benefit from additional support. The early childhood special education team works with families to conduct assessments and provide services to children who meet eligibility criteria.
The Early Education staff hold special education screenings as needed throughout the school year. These screenings are for children ages 3 to 5 who have someone concerned about their development and for whom Multi-Tiered Systems of Support implementation has not been effective in progressing development. Parent observation and input are an important component to the screening process. Children who meet one of these qualifying criteria are eligible for special education services and an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed to meet their needs.
