The Colchester Alternative Program will provide a quality educational opportunity that enables students to become compassionate, independent, empathetic learner who will persevere. Our program will provide an environment that utilizes alternative strategies, an individualized approach and relationships to recognize and the meet the unique needs and strengths of each student.
The Colchester Alternative Program is designed to provide academic and behavioral support to students as an alternative to the mainstream school setting. Students may be part of the classroom program, Target Graduation or a combination of the two. Additionally, students may participate in mainstream high school classes as well as selected CAP opportunities. The comprehensive curriculum includes academic and experiential instruction in English, math, science, social studies, fine arts, physical education and study skills.
The CAP Classroom option provides students the opportunity to take up to 7 classes. Our schedule runs the same everyday (please see an example of a daily schedule provided on the home page.) Each class is 40 minutes long with no more than 10 students per class. Classes are team taught with additional staff available to aid in instruction. The classes consist of electives, English, math, history, and science. Students’ school weeks consist of 2 long days 8:45 to 2:20 and three short days 8:45 to 12:20 per week.
CAP Taget Graduation offers students the ability to work independently on needed credit. This option is intended for those who are missing credit or only have a few remaining credits to earn towards graduation. Students are provided with individualized curriculum in their needed areas, as well as a set schedule. Faculty and staff are available to help but this option is designed for independent learners who are self motivated. The Target Graduation option is offered Monday through Friday from 12:20 to 2:20.
