Childcare

1. Preschool at Malletts Bay School - This preschool is for children who are 3 or 4. The program runs Tuesday through Friday for half days and is free to Colchester residents. You can call or email Nancy Smith the director of the program: 802-264-5894, nancy.smith@colchestersd.org
2. Childcare Assistance - If you have a job but can not afford childcare (daycare or afterschool program) the state of Vermont can help pay for childcare so you can continue to work. The program is called Bright Futures.
3. ACE - Is the afterschool program that takes place at each of the elementary schools. Kids can stay until 6pm. Sometimes the program fills up and has a wait list. Financial assistance is available.
4. The Edge - is an afterschool program in Essex. A bus comes to collect children from UMS and MBS and brings them to the EDGE where they participate in many different physical activities. The program runs until 5:30. To find out more information or apply please check out.

English Classes

1. USCRI ELL Classes - USCRI Vermont provides English Language Learning Classes as well as English for Special Purposes, Pathways to Higher Education Classes, and U.S.Citizenship Classes. They also provide private tutoring services if students are not able to attend class due to health or employment constraints.
2. Fletcher Free Library ELL Classes - These classes are on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm. Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced Levels classes are available. English Language Learners of all abilities can practice written and spoken English. The library is located at 235 College St. in Burlington.
3. Vermont Adult Learning - VAL offers many levels of English classes at different times and locations. You have to take a placement test before beginning their classes.

1. Colchester Parks and Recreation - Offers many programs throughout the year for students to learn additional skills such as coding, knitting, legos, basketball, lacrosse and more. Financial aid is available here to help pay for after school classes. Here are the current offerings of classes.

1. School Lunch Form - Fill out this application to apply for help with school breakfast and lunch. In the top right corner there is a button to select language (Spanish, Arabic, French, Tagalog, Vietnamese or Chinese). The form is available in Nepali on paper here.
2. 3SquaresVT - Can help you with assistance to purchase healthy food for your family. You can visit the district office (Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 4:30 PM) at 119 Pearl Street, John Zampieri State Office Building, Burlington, VT 05401.
3. WIC - The USDA Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC gives your family access to healthy foods, nutrition education and counseling, and breastfeeding support. They are located at 108 Cherry Street, Suite 102, Burlington, VT 05402 (802)-863-7323.
4. Colchester Food Shelf - You can go one time a month to receive food. Please bring a piece of mail with your Colchester address on it. The hours are: Tuesdays: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m Wednesdays: 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Thursdays: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It is located at 245 Main Street Colchester, VT
5. Holy Cross Church - You can go to receive food if you are a Colchester resident. Please bring your Driver’s License and proof of residency (electric bill with individuals’s name on it). The hours are: Monday - Friday 1:00 pm -3:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am - 12:00 pm and it is located at 416 Church Road Colchester, VT
6. Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf - This location provides a food for your familyand serves all of Chittenden County. The hours are: Monday through Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm and it is located at 228 North Winooski Avenue Burlington.
7. Sara Holbrook Community Center - This community center serves Chittenden County, with a focus on the North End in Burlington. You can go one time a month to get food. To get help please call the Center at 862-6342 to schedule an appointment. They are located at 21 Dodds Court, Burlington, VT.
8. Milton Family Community Center - There is a food pantry here that serves Milton and surrounding towns. The hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 3:00pm and Tuesday and Friday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. It is located at 23 Villemaire Lane Milton, VT.

Health Care

1. The University of Vermont Children's Hospital - There are many pediatricians at these offices who work with families from other countries. There are interpreters and a telephone interpreting service to help with your visits.
2. Community Health Centers Dental Care - Dental care is available here even if you do not have insurance.
3. Community Health Centers of Burlington - This center offers medical and dental services. They have translation services available. In the top right corner of this website you can select the language.
4. Collman Pediatrics - A local pediatrician right in Colchester at 164 Main Street Suite 202, Colchester VT 05446
5. Connecting Cultures Mental Health - This office has therapist who specialize in the experiences many refugee families have encountered. They use interpreters and community elders to assist with their treatments.

Language and Cultural Programs

1. Vermonth Chinese School - This school offers Chinese language courses and cultural activities for all ages. Classes are held at South Burlington High School, email vtchineseschool@gmail.com for more information.
2. Vermont Nepali Cultural Heritage Group - This group practices and performs traditional Nepali dances.
3. Association of Africans Living in Vermont - The AALV helps new Americans from all parts of the world become independent in their new communities. They can help with case management, workforce development and interpreter services. With support from our multicultural, multilingual staff, clients are able to smoothly transition to living and working in Vermont.
4. Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program - VRRP offers help in many areas from English classes to clothing for new families arriving through the USCRI resettlement program.

Large Grocery Stores

1. Hannaford - In Essex is a traditional grocery store. If you go there frequently ask customer service about signing up for the customer loyalty program to earn points and discounts.
2. Shaws - In Colchester is a traditional grocery store. If you go there often ask about joining their customer loyalty program.
3. Price Chapper - In Colchester is a traditional grocery store that is open 24 hours a day. If you go there often ask about joining their customer loyalty program.
4. Mac's Market - In Essex is a small traditional grocery store. They have a smaller selection of items and may be a bit more expensive.
5. Hannaford - In Burlington’s New North End is a traditional grocery store. If you go there often ask customer service about joining their loyalty program to earn points.

1. Diversity @ Metro Hair - This is a hair salon specializing in diverse hair styles located at 180 Pearl Street in Burlington.
2. Sally Beauty Supply - They carry a wide range of beauty supply products for different hair types. They are located across from the University Mall.
3. HAIR R US - This store sells hair care products, wigs, weaves, braids, and hair extensions. It is located at 1140 Williston Rd. in South Burlington.
4. The Shop - This is a barber shop located in Burlington specializing in male hair styles.

Technology

1. Internet Essentials - This is a service to get internet from as low as $9.95 per month for your house. There is a discount if you are part of the free and reduced lunch program through school. If you need a copy of your qualification letter please call Cathy Ward at Central Office (802) 264-5999
2. Colchester School District 1:1 Device Contract - This needs to be filled out each year for middle and high school students. These are the very important rules for using their Chrome books. Please talk about these rules with your child.
3. Annual School Registration - This form needs to be filled out every summer to update your child’s information and enroll them in school for the new year. Click on the link on the right hand side that says: Returning Student Verification.

Transportation

1. Bus - The bus line is Green Mountain Transit. It only covers a small part of Colchester near St. Michael’s College and Fort Ethan Allen. It costs $1.50 for one ride and one child under 5 can ride free with an adult.
2. Vermont Driver's License - The closest Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is located in South Burlington. If you need a new license here is the website that tells you what to bring. You can also print out the form from this website and bring it with you when you visit the DMV.

Utilities and Other Resources

1. Fuel Assistance - If you are having a hard time paying your heating bills in the winter there is a program to help.
2. Housing Assistance - If paying rent is difficult or you may be evicted there are programs to help you.
3. 2-1-1 - This is a resource directly from the United Way that has many resources to help with taxes, legal services and many other areas. It is a large database of local resources.
